November Specialty Beer: Dunbar Scotch Ale
Dunbar was our favorite stop on a trip to Scotland in 1989. This
small seaside town south of Edinburg is also home to the Bellhaven
Brewery and some of the best ales in Scotland. We brewed a limited
amount of our scotch ale in June to age and mellow the prodigious
quantity of Scottish 2-row barley malt and a touch of German melanoid
malt. The result is a smooth caramel finish with imported English fuggle
hops playing a supporting role. Tapped on Friday, Nov. 5. OG: 1079, 8.4%
alcohol by vol. 6.7 SRM; 21 IBU.
Note: We ran out of October Specialties Cascadian
Dark and Worth Wet Hop this past weekend. To help fill the void we’ve
ordered Millstream’s Schild Brau Vienna lager from Amana, Iowa—a World
Beer Cup Gold 2010 Gold Medal winner.

Germany-Belgium Beer Tour 2011
Join Margaret and Peter, owners of Worth
Brewing Company on a trip of a lifetime to Germany & Belgium next
September! The Beer Tour will depart the USA on Thursday, September 8,
2011, and the length will be 12 days/11 nights, this will be 10 nights
in hotels & 1 on the flight, returning home on Monday, September 19.
Highlights:
We’ll arrive in Munich on Sept. 8, 2011, and fly home from Brussels on
Sept. 19. In between we’ll visit Andechs Brewery & Monastery, King
Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle, Weihenstephan, the oldest brewery in the
world, Bamberg (Where our German barley is malted) the home of the
famous smoked beers and a UNESCO world heritage city, a trip on a Rhine
River steamer from Rudesheim to Koblenz, a stop at Abbaye d'Orval and
relish in their beer, cheese and crackers for a few hours, then into
Brussels where we stay for 3 nights, a visit to Bruges and Hoegaarden.
This tour appeals to me because we won’t be
checking in and out of hotels and moving every day. We’ll have a chance
to absorb the local culture—and beer of course.
Tour arrangements
All booking and arrangements are through Allen Travel of Clear Lake.
Owner Jay Allen is a customer and beer geek with years of experience in
the travel industry. I encourage you to check out prices and extensive
details on their website. And shop around. We believe this tour is the
best, most reasonable European beer tour available.
