A Scandinavian Winter Festival, Saturday Feb. 2
Don’t let the cold coop you up when festive winter fun begins in Northwood on Saturday Feb. 2.
Join your friends at Worth Brewing Company’s annual Ølfest, a Scandinavian winter festival inside and out of the Brewery’s Tap Room on Northwood’s Central Avenue Historic District. There will be fires for beer poking in the biergarten and Worth Brewing Company and imported Scandinavian fest beer to stave off the winter chill.
The brewery crew will grill Ølfest Dogs all day. These Scandinavian potato sausages are made locally at Fallgatter's Grocery in Northwood following the brewery's own recipe. We'll pair them with Margaret's warm potato salad and spent-grain bread.
A special treat this year is the tapping of the commemorative Bamberg Smoked Fest Lager. Nick and Peter brewed this in late 2018 using German malt dried over a beechwood fire. This intensely flavored beer has been dubbed bacon beer by adherents and would be the perfect poking potable. We'll also have a limited number of Haandbryggeriet Bestefar. This beer is brewed in Norway by the Haandbryggeriet Brewery in Drammen.
Live Music, Entertainment:
Tap Room Favorites Bill and Lee will hit the stage from 6 until 8. This popular duo from Minnesota provide the perfect atmosphere for fest day.
Other fun will include hammerschlagen and drawings for glassware, Worth Brewing Spicy Brown Ale Cheese spread and other bling throughout the day.
Somewhere within the city limits of Northwood nestles three pucks; another one resides elsewhere in Worth County. One of the four is an official Ølfest Puck that earns the finder one free beer each week all year long. The others net you a free pint and Ølfest dog on Olfest Saturday, Feb. 2.
We'll provide clues on Facebook and Twitter in January until all pucks are discovered.
"We thought this would be a fun opportunity for people to get out, exercise and discover Northwood," said Worth Brewing co-founder Margaret Bishop. Make plans now for the whole family to enjoy the fest and witness the crowning of the puck hunt winners at 8 p.m.
